Sitting on the bus on the way to work this morning I heard two of the University cleaners chatting.
They were talking about how worn out they were. One said she had got in from work the evening before, done some housework, cooked dinner for her family and went to bed at 8.30 because she was so tired. She had got up this morning still feeling tired.
It made me feel a little bit sad. So many of us get so caught up in the hamster wheel of work, sleep and back to work again. Round and round and round we go, making ourselves dizzy! I don’t think anyones life should be like this.
It got me thinking that we all need to (I have been trying to figure out how to word this and have come up with) “nourish our souls” sometimes.
I can just imagine what reaction I would get if I said that to the women on the bus! No time for that, can’t afford it! This would probably be my reaction too, if someone said it to me.
It usually takes a major life changing event (illness, loss of a loved one, long term relationship break up) for people to realize that they need to make lifestyle changes.
But, I think there are small things we can all do, maybe everyday, that take very little time and don’t cost anything (or very much) that can help us to feel revived and refreshed, nourished.
It shouldn’t have to take some unexpected major life event to jolt us into recognizing that life is special – our lives are special and could be magical.
